Help Problem with email app

rayo

Lurker
Hi all,

I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 and, after a week, I have a couple of doubts/questions.

Is it normal that, with the normal android email app you must be online (either with 3G or WiFi) to delete downloaded emails or to mark them as read? I have that issue with the S3, but not with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 or with the HTC phone. Both in the tablet and the HTC phone I can delete emails or mark them as read with data connections off (I am not referring to gmail accounts, only to POP accounts read with the email app).

As I understand said app works by connecting to the server, downloading the emails and, once downloaded, you would not need to be online to read, delete, etc. So I find this behaviour of the S3 a bit strange (especially when comparing with the Note 10.1, because the OS is basically the same).

Any hints?

Hi guys, any help?

Can someone try deleting/marking an email as read in the email app when offline (3G/4G and WiFi off) and let me know if you get the next message saying that you have to activate your data connection?

"Mobile data is disabled. Connect to Wi-Fi network instead, or enable mobile data and try again"

try setting up your email client to pop rather than imap. pop will delete local and imap wants to delete concurrently with the server. That way, you'll delete it from you phone, but it'll still exist on the server. once you delete it from the pone, it will not get "re-sent" even if it still resides on the server. You can set a timed deletion rule on the server so you won't have to delete it manually. That is also deletion by mistake insurance lol
Aloha and Good Luck!

bobolinko,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for not replying before, but I have been on holidays.

The accounts in my phone are POP, not IMAP. I have exactly the same settings as in a HTC phone and in a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. And in both, even if I disconnect all data connections (WiFi and 3G/4G) I can delete and/or mark read the emails in the device. That is why I am so puzzled that I cannot do the same in the S3.

To be honest the native email app is horrible! I would suggest using Aquamail instead.
