Problem with galaxy s

Hi. I purchased sgs a week ago and was very impressed. Today after installing a few apps and widgets the phone became significantly slower. what can be done to return the phone to its proper speed?
In addition the phone's battery doesn't last very long, at least not as promised in the reviews. I try to turn anything unnecessary off like wifi and apps. How can I improve the battery life on this phone? Thanks a lot.
 
To improve battery life run the phone to the point that it dies and turns off, recharge to 100% and repeat this cycle three times.

As for the phone being slow, I had exchanged mine for a new unit due to this and a capacitive button glitch. My new Captivate (also a Galaxy S phone) runs very smoothly and battery life was actually great from the start.
 
i'm really new to this (first smartphone), and my vibrant dosen't even have your phones problem, but my understanding is that an app called advanced task killer alleviates the things you described. i have it in my phone now and check it through my day. i had no idea how many apps turn themselves on, and how often they do it. i assume that closing (or killing) these opened apps would save battery and space. i could be wrong, again, i'm 6 days into this! hope this helps
 
wifi, live wallpapers, brightness on high are all examples of what can drain your battery pretty good. Especially the City at night and Aquarium wallpapers(live).

ATK generally does more harm than good.

With the way android is built, you really don't have to kill apps. However if you need a task killer in your arsenal, I advise system panel. And never do a kill all. Only kill the selected app if it is a rogue app.

It often kills vital system processes. (Hence more drain on battery because the processor has to fire them back up for the phone to run)

And even if set to an ignore list, it screws up the way Android runs, so after a few "kill alls" (which people think is some super remedy) Android basically gets all goofy and more laggy than before.

Yah I've noticed that before too while using TaskKiller, which shows some vital services running in the background. Even tho I don't select to end any of those apps it does lag a little bit after I hit kill apps. But I usually use Advanced Task Killer which seems to only target actual apps and not any type of services running in the background.
 
To be honest it isn't needed ever, the phone shut downs processes as more memory is needed. Processes running in the background also take up such an insignificantly small amount of space, it isn't worth killing them.
 
I'll be honest the main reason I kill apps (using AdvancedTaskKiller widget) is that when I kill the apps it says for example 100M memory free.....I just try to see how high I can get that number too....so far 198M

Its needed here and there for apps that act as services.

Such as the new facebook revision.. what battery hog. I always kill that app after I'm done.

Or tikL.. another battery killer.

Or I'm clients such as nimbuzz or meego. I always kill them when done.
