Mine stopped doing that since I switched off this thing:

Phone icon on home screen>Keypad>Menu button>Settings>Call Settings>Additional Settings>Noise Reduction> Not selected.

Also try when answering calls to remember - keep your fingers away from the microphone.
That's all.

If this helps you press the thanks button :-)

Yap, this is it. I bet all of us that have this issue are left-handed people. So the tendency is to put the small finger over the microphone :).

Solution: Either switch to the right ear or be aware of your left hand small finger ;)

I have the same problem with my galxy s 3, people can't hear me. They have change my phone 3 times but i still have the problem.

Another lefty here, I can confirm that my pinky was covering the mic the first half-dozen or so times I used the phone. I've finally taught myself to not hold it like that haha. :)

Just FYI folks (and anyone who is searching for an answer on this issue and finds this thread), I had the same problem. Did everything including a factory restore. Absolutely no help. Disabling noise reduction help a little bit but not much. The voice recording meter would barely move when I even spoke loudly and directly into it. Was planning on going to ATT on Tuesday to see about a replacement. I did this first:

I cleaned out the microphone hole with a needle. There was some fluff (pocket lint I assume) that came out. Just a tiny bit and a little tiny piece of debris.

IT FIXED THE PROBLEM!

My microphone works perfectly and clearly again! I don't know how stuff got in there as the hole is so small but try and clean it out and see if that does the trick!

Lol! So much for a tech solution, huh?

Not sure if this is the same problem, but the issue only happens for me when my ear is to the phone. If I speak directly to the phone with my face in front of it, it works fine.

1. It might be related to the ear being on the phone (causing a mute/hold?)

2. It might be related to the display going off (as a result of having the ear next to the phone)

3. It might be related to the angle we are speaking into the mic.

I used a super powerful magnifying glass (printer's loop [google it]) and discovered that the mic hole was actually a little plugged. a bit of waxy substance needed to be cleaned out. Not visible to the naked eye. I used a VERY sharp needle to dig it out carefully while looking through the magnifying glass. the volume was instantly fixed.

* * check Ur SIM card , mine was cut to size wrong and was not sitting in the slot correctly , shave half a millimetre of the side and presto , my Mic works perfectly hope it helps

Hi .
My phone is a galaxy s3 mini gt-i8190 with Android 4.1.1
First I couldn't find the call settings but finally I found it bug know the noise reduction doesn't appear
I search the manual and say that the option apears whe you made a cal and push the menu button.
But instead of the noise reduction option I have SIM services option!!!
Please some help.
The low mic is annoying T__T

General Problem with Galaxy S3 microphone, people cannot hear me well.

Hi
best solution is when talking you should hold mobile phone from both sides and remove your finger from the microphone. you should clear the bottom side of phone from hand, palm and fingers where microphone located. hopefully your problem will be sold.

I noticed that the proper route to noise reduction selection is. (S3 4.3)

Phone icon on home screen>Keypad>Menu button>Call Settings>Noise Reduction> Un-select.

You have to scroll to see noise reduction.

Eureka, you are the man. Along with the other, all good solutions, this one did it. I had been sucking on that mike hoping to dislodge something, but until I used the loupe and needle I did not get anything. I could not pick what ever was in there out but it fell thru. Hopefully past the mike. It works fire know. Tanks again

Yup just fixed this. Took the phone apart just enough so I could pull the board off the mic area both carefully and just a little so that the small needle would not damage the mic soldered on the board. Pushed the blockage through then out through the small opening in the assembly I made with pulling the board up slightly. You need to be careful of 2 things when fixing this way.
1) There is a plastic piece behind the "Home" button on the phone. Do not dislodge or disturb it.
2) there is another small plastic piece that wraps around the mic and leads to the mic pipe (the part that gets gooped up and needs cleaning). Try not to disturb this either.

Not super critical if you accidentally move these out of place, it is just a pain in the @$$ to get them back into place.
Oh, and make sure your phone is face\Screen down as you disassemble it. This will ensure no pieces accidentally come flying out as you take it apart.
This phone is not that difficult to disassemble, just be methodical and careful. Haste makes waste.

Thanks, this just solved my problem too! (Surprised and relieved!)

And I believe you did find a tech solution! We applied a device called a USHCP (Ultra Slim Hole Clearing Probe) ;)

(Okay, yeah, I made that up, but Thanks again!)
