Problem with home wifi

Does anyone have a problem with their home network? I had a really old MyTouch and it connected to my home network fine. It also downloaded from the Android Market pretty quickly.

My Exhibit II has a full signal from my Netgear. I'm sitting right next to it. Yet sometimes it connects and sometimes it lags. Do you think rooting the phone would help this issue?

I do not have a data plan.

Never mind! I read a bunch of other forums and it looks like I had to lower my encryption from 128 bit to 64 bit. I tried all these toher setting for hours. Finally got it to work! It's still a bit slow. Just an FYI if anyone else runs into this problem.
