Help problem with syncing

ddenholm

Lurker
I have a Galaxy Player 5 (WiFi only) running Gingerbread.

Everything was working fine until about 2 days ago when some things stopped synchronizing.

I am connecting properly with WIFI, I can browse to websites fine and a couple of weather apps update with the latest weather.

But...

  • My 3 GMail accounts will no longer sync. ("Accounts and sync" show "sync error" for all three accounts and a message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" for the last couple of days.)
  • My Economist magazine app will not download the latest issue (It just hangs.)
  • My Pocket Case app will not download any new podcasts. (It gives no error message but no new podcasts are downloaded.)
  • Google PlayStore will not connect (It says "No Connection")
While...

  • Weatherbug app works fine
  • BBC news app works fine
  • AccuWeather app works
  • Financial Times app works fine
  • WikiEncyclopedia app works fine
  • The Guardian newspaper app works fine
I have tried powering the player up and down. Turning background sync and autosync on and off... Nothing fixes the problem.

Any suggestions on how to get this working would be appreciated.

TIA,

Actually.... I just figured it out on my own. My tablet battery died a couple of days back and the system clock reset to some arbitrary date back in 2005. (It took me two days to realize the time was messed up.)

Any synch mechanism that used the system time was therefore hosed but simple browsing and some other network mechanisms worked fine. [I am a little surprised that the system doesn't update the time off the internet if the internet is available.]

Anyway, I set the date and time to the present and now everything is back to working.
