Help Problem with Text-to-speech

I have Picolo speech engine pre-installed. I also installed an app from Android Market that reads out received sms messages. It worked fine for a while but it no longer works. Its not the app - I uninstalled it and installed several other similar apps, but none of them work.

When the phone boots I hear an audible message 'new message received' even if there is no new message. After that nothing. The app that supposed to read out received messages doesn't work and I've tried changing all settings in text-to-speech without any luck. Can anyone help?

I installed a new text-to-speech engine. Although it works on demand, it still has not fixed the problem of reading received sms, which still doesn't work.

I resolved it. It was due to a setting in GoSMS that supresses other app notifications. I unchecked it and now it works fine.
