Problems with car charger

I have two in car chargers, one is a genuine Samsung the other is a generic brand both are exhibiting the same problem.

The first couple of times i used the Samsung charger everything was great, however after a few uses it stopped charging my phone. As i thought the charger may have been the issue i bought a generic charger and after a few uses again this one stopped working.

I have checked the fuse in the generic charger (can't find how to access the fuse i the Samsung) the lighter port is getting power as the LED on the generic charger is lit.

Anyone have any ideas why the chargers should stop working like this?

Phone is a Galaxy Note

I had the same problem with one phone i had. The only way i found to resolve the problem was to buy a cheap inverter and use a mains charger in the car.

Do you use the same apps and the same USB cable as before that chargers failures?

Apps with heavy power consuming (navigation) and long+cheap USB cables can stop the proper charging of the phone.

EDIT: I take it the chargers didn't stop the charging completely, only they stopped to charge properly.
