Problems with Yahoo email address

I did look at a similar thread but didn't see a suitable response hence the new post.

OK, so my personal email is a yahoo.co.uk address but when setting up I kept getting the message saying user ID/ password incorrect etc. After many failed attempts I entered may address as yahoo.com and it worked.

Why is this?

Sounds more like a server side issue than a handset issue. We may never know.
