Help Procees android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly.

First of all hello everyone, I'm new here and new to forms in general so be gentle with me.

Im having a problem with my Orange San Francisco, About 6 months ago I followed a guide to remove the orange rubbish, (I think this involved "rooting" the phone hope I have got the right term) this seemed to go fine and the phone worked fine for a month or so. Now when ever I try to access my contacts I get the following message.

The procees android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

The only way i have of accessing my contacts list is by using the dialer application.

I hope this question hasnt already been asked i have searched to find an answer but with no luck.

I would be greatful for any help anyone can give.

Welcome to AF!

Have you backed your contacts up to your gmail account? That error normally is a result of corrupt data somewhere in your contact list.

Head to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> - All -> Contacts/Contact Storage -> Clear Cache.

That could potentially sort, post back if it doesn't as there are other things we can try.

Thank you for replying I have backed up my contacts with Orange.

Tried what you said but they both show 0.00B in the cache?

What else should I try.

No probs. From the same menu, you could try clearing the data. It might delete all the contacts, but if you have them backed up with Orange, you'll be able to restore them afterwards.

Very little unfortunately. I'm not even sure a factory reset would resolve.

If you're rooted already, how do you feel about a custom ROM?

How hard is it to do, I not that confident at doing it but can i back it up so I can rescue it if a make a mess of doing it?

Yeah, you can take what's called a Nandroid backup before you flash anything.

I'll have a dig around, see if I can find any more info on the error before we go down that road though.

If clearing the contacts data/cache didn't sort, it looks as though a factory reset probably won't sort either.

Are you willing to go for a custom ROM? It makes the phone at least ten times better and I'm 99.99% sure it will solve the issue.
