Help Program Keyboard Codes

I have a Bluetooth keyboard for my tablet, and I'm trying to figure out how to type in key codes like you would on a PC. A lot of tutorials say to use Num Lock and a Num pad with Alt. I do have Alt, but I don't have the other two. Also, PC users have the ability to recode certain special characters to make it easier to type them. Is there a way for me to do the same?

There lies the issue. The manual doesn't say, and the website printed on it is down, so I can't email them. So in asking, I was hoping I could find something that would work for any keyboard regardless of brand or model. I can't reprogram the keyboard itself, but I figured Android would be able to read specific keystrokes and give specific outputs, default or user-programmed. Hold this button, then type this code, like Windows.
