Project Tango

I recently heard of this project by Google called project tango. Basically they are trying to take your smartphone and make it smarter by giving it a sense of reality is space and time. This sensor will be able to see the world in a 3 dimension. This could be a Huge break through for those without the ability to see because a phone with a sense of space can potentially guide a blind person in the world.

Johnny Lee designed it in 2007. After working on QA for the Kinnect (his first gig after school) someone finally listened - he's at Google now and that's Project Tango.

The new 3D phone from Amazon, coming in September and being laughed at by press hyenas because it's 3D, is reported to have 4 IR cameras on the face specifically for... wait for it... head tracking.

Project Tango may be here sooner than you think.

I've been following Johnny Lee in the press since 2010, so I'm way ready for the wait to be over! :)

Tango is also being used in conjunction with NASA's SPHERES platform to build 343 Guilty Spark:
