Help Protected Apps - what is the "primary account" ?

Phone is a Wileyfox Swift - running Android 7.1.1

There's a Google Icon which contains Google, Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Drive, Hangouts, Photos and News & Weather.

It has a little padlock in the bottom right corner. Clicking it brings up a pattern-swipe to unlock. If you have forgotten the pattern, it says "Enter primary email account and password to unlock."

Can anyone suggest WTF this "primary account" is ? Because it's not my Google Android account that the device is signed-in with ?

After trawling through a lot of code, it seems 2FA was the problem. If it's enabled you can't bypass the swipe screen by simply logging in.

Of course you won't be told this.

Disable 2FA, log in, make your changes, and re-enable.
