I flashed it now I can't restore my backups and when I flash a rooted rom it says no root do you want to root through recovery (don't flash any
Kit Kat ROM you lose root and have to flash stock rom and go from there)

There are people reporting they have maintained root with the flash. I can't say how they did it, and I'll be waiting for something a little more official myself.

Also read not to use TWRP with that rom, only the latest CWM.

I flashed the pa-aosp version of 4.4 with no problems. Had to use CM touch recovery. I tried with TWRP 2.3.6 and it wouldn't flash. Wipe data, flash ROM and Gapps. Works fine. no issues to report other than some missing functions but it is an alpha after all. To be honest I would wait for the official release. We should start to see the roll-out next week sometime and CM is reporting they should have a nightly of CM11 by the end of the month.
