Purchased new SD card. How do I format to work?

I just bought a new SD card, to have more memory. However, my phone says I have a blank SD card. It asks if i want to format SD card. I say format, yes but nothing happens. I am still unable to save photos, download music or send photos.

The first thing I would try is putting the card in an adapter and plugging it into a PC. Try formatting it and accessing it there. If that doesn't work, you likely have a bad card. If it does work, put it back in the phone and see if it recognizes it. If not, make sure the card isn't too large for your phone to support. If it should be supported, you may be looking at a hardware problem with the phone.
