Push Email on Google Apps

Hi All,

I've just moved from a Blackberry onto an Android phone (HTC Sensation). One of the things I'm finding is that the phone's slow to update with new email messages. I don't know if this is just the way I've setup google apps. Is the push email on Android with Google Apps as instant as the Blackberry? I've got the phone setup using IMAP and I can't find any other settings. Is there anything else I should be changing?

It sounds like you setup your gmail in the htc mail app instead of the gmail app. If you setup your gmail account in the gmail app, you get push email, which should be just like your bb.

Push mail is for Gmail accounts only and requires you to use the Gmail app. If you use the Mail app (that allows you to use other email accounts), you will not get push mail.

I forward my email to my Gmail account and use the Gmail app. The push notifications are quick and are comparable to BlackBerrys in terms of speed of notification.

Just so I'm clear, if I use Google apps under the gmail account I won't get push mail benefit? I'he loaded the account under gmail app and I'm having to run a refresh.

Do you have background data and auto-sync turned on (found in settings --> Accounts and Sync).
