I vaguely remember reading a while ago its possible to put apps on thephone through ways other than the market place. Is there a special way to do it? Or did I Misread?

Yeah, I think you can download apps from various places on the internet directly...maybe like direct from developers websites. I think you need an app like appsinstaller or something similar to then install it after the download. The market has it all though, so for the most part I wouldn't see why this would be necessary.

If you use the browser on the phone to download the .apk file, you can simply click on it on the downloads screen when it's finished. No other application required.

Alternatively, you can download it on your computer, and copy the .apk file to the sdcard...however, you will need a file manager (I prefer estrongs file explorer) or an app installer application like club directed.

In either case, you first need to enable 3rd party installation: settings -> applications -> unknown sources
