question about data plans and texting

I'm shopping for my first smartphone and plan to get the Incredible. I'm considering what type of plan I should get, and my question has to do with texting. Some of the plans have unlimited texting, which will be good for my wife.

However, if I get a "'normal" plan (without the texting extra) and an unlimited data plan, do I still need to pay extra for the unlimited texts? It seems there should be a way to handle sms texting via the web without having to pay extra for texting.

Thanks in advance for any input.

There is no way for texting to be send over a data or WIFI connection. There is instant messaging for AIM (apparently a few people still use this in the world), Yahoo!, MSN, Facebook, GoogleTalk....these all use data and NOT texts.

Is there a google voice app for android? Something that would use gvoice to send/receive SMS on your phone over internet and make it look local?

lol no offense, but, seriously?? OF COURSE there is a Google Voice app for Android. As for using it the way you want to, I have not, so I don't know.
