Question about installing .apk's on tablet

If your Nexus doesn't have an sd slot and you are installing an apk that says:

Install APK
Copy 'com.hutchgames.smashcopsheat' folder to '/sdcard/Android/obb'
Launch the Game

Can you just make a folder that says: sdcard/Android/obb or am I just out of luck? Does anybody know?

I have no idea. My son asked me this and when I looked at him like he was speaking a foreign language, he asked if I could find out. He also asked what to do about apk's that say: "Unpack, copy to SDCard, install with your file manager" since the NEXUS doesn't have/use sd cards.

I see!

If he's asking those sorts of questions, it sounds as though he's downloaded via an unauthorised source (not Play or Amazon etc) and we're not really allowed to assist if that's the case.

I've had a look and the game is free on Play: Smash Cops Heat.

If he installs via that link, he won't need to mess around with copying stuff to SD Cards etc, it should all be done automatically. :)

He just got the tablet today as a gift. He never thought about getting a tablet so he Googled 'tablets' to see what to do with it. He asked me the questions after five hours on Google. I told him what you said and he was relieved. He said he didn't understand anything people were saying on those sites (he's only 12). I told him to stick to the sources you mentioned and he's there now looking.

Thanks bunches!

First off, is the tablet your son has a nexus 7?

The Nexus 7 most certainly has an sd card! It's true that there is no sd card slot but there is a portion of memory set aside as an internal sd card.

If you open a file explorer such as ES FileExplorer, you can navigate to the folder "/sdcard/Android/obb" that the OP mentioned in the first post.

There are legitimate reasons for wanting to install from an .apk instead of the Play Store. If the son's tablet is not a Nexus 7, it may not have access to Google Play. I had a Kindle Fire before my Nexus 7 and had to install many apps by downloading the .apk from my phone or other source to be able to install on the Kindle Fire. Another reason is that some apps are only available directly from the developer and not from the Play Store.
