Question about mergeing Google mail and work email

I want a single click button that will allow me to choose which mail box i want to look at(gmail and work). I have tried the mail app that comes with the phone and was able to load my gmail but i was unable to add a lable(if i used the gmail app i was able to add a label). Is there anyway to get the gmail functionality in the normal mail program that also allows for non gmail accounts to be setup?
