Question about phone memory

I'm sure most of the people on this forum are from the US, but this question is EU specific, since I live in the Netherlands. My sister just had her birthday and I'm helping her pick a phone. I have a Desire myself, so I'm looking for something with Android. The price range is 150-220 euros, which isn't a lot.

So we came down to the Sony Ericcson X8 or Acer BeTouch 140 which are respectively 190 and 200 euros on the shop I found them. I've used a Wildfire before, but the screen on that is amazingly blurry. The X8 is just perfect since it has a HVGA resolution screen, which is good for the price range and that doesn't limit her to a just few apps on QVGA. But what my question is - and I have this problem with my Desire too - is the phone memory a problem? My Desire has 2.2 and I've used the method to change the preferred install location to SD.

Is there any chance I can use that method on her X8 too? Or will she be limited to just 125 MB's of fun without any apps on the SD card? Thanks in advance.

App to SD is only available to Froyo unless if you root your phone. Since SE didn't update their phone to 2.1 until last month, it will probably be quite a while before you see froyo on the X8.

I knew that, but I've used something where it would force apps to the SD card. But does that require Froyo as well? I haven't rooted my own phone yet and I'm not planning to, but is the X8 easily rootable? Does it require much risk to get apps2sd on it?
