Question about phone pricing

I know that I have asked this question before, but I think I worded it poorly. I am planning on getting the HTC Aria, and I am not eligible for an upgrade. I know that I won't get new 2 year contract pricing, but since i will be using this on my current contract i was thinking that i would pay that and not no-commitment pricing. so I went onto att.com to look at the phone more;) and a chat live option came up so i pressed it. And i was talking to a lady and she said that i would have to pay no-commitment pricing:eek:. But i got the feeling she wasn't too intellignent:p and decided i should re-ask people who know what they are talking about. Thanks in advance!

If you don't sign a new 2 yr contract and you are not eligible for an upgrade you have to pay the non-commitment pricing.

What is the point of the 2 yr pricing then?

For new AT&T customers and for current customers who's pervious 2 yr agreements are near expired or expired.

If you are NOT eligible for an upgrade yet you DO NOT get any kind of phone/device discount.
