Question about porting number OUT of Verizon

Gatman

Android Enthusiast
Hi everyone,

Just ordered my Nexus 5 today, and intend to activate it and port my number out of Verizon when it shows up next week. My line is the second on the account (wife's line is primary), and is out of contract.

Once I port out, will the charges from Verizon automatically stop, or do I need to do something? I've never ported a number before, so I'm unsure if I need to do anything with Verizon once the number is ported to the new carrier.

Any guidance or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gary

Number porting is pretty much the same with all carriers:

When the port goes through your current cell phone service will automatically be canceled. You might get charged to the remainder of your current month.

Do not cancel your current service first. Start the number porting process while your service is active since a number must be active to port.

Once you port, your account is canceled. You don't have to do anything except pay the final bill when it comes next month.
