Question about purchasing a new phone and keep unlimited data

I currently have 2 phones on my unlimited verizon data plan, my rezound which is 4g and my girls Droid 2 which is 3g.

I will be buying my girl either the droid 3 or 4 depending on the answers to these questions.
I will b buying the phone at full price, not subsidized and not updating my contract.

If I buy the droid 3 I'm guessing I can just activate it and b good to go because her line is already a 3g line. But what happens if I buy the droid 4 that is 4g? I'm guessing I would have to upgrade that 3g line to a 4g line and then verizon would say I have to update my unlimited plan to their new shared plan, or do u think I will still b able to keep my unlimited plan?

Thank you

I don't think that anyone has came here confirming if you can switch up to 4g or not. I upgraded before just incase they don't allow it. I would recommend talking to a manager or customer service by phone and get it recorded

When I pre-ordered my S3 I was told that switching from 3G to 4G would have no effect on my unlimited. I called several times to confirm this. I guess I'll know the truth of the matter when I activate. If they try to yank my unlimited they'll have a fight on their hands.

No, you only lose your unlimited when you upgrade on at a subsidized price on your line. So you can either pay full retail price for you phone, or you can add a line to your account, get a new phone for this new line at a subsidized price, assign that new phone to your line, have new line be a ghost line or associate with an old dumb-phone (something that doesn't require data) to keep the extra line at 9.99/mo.

Again it does not matter if you are going 3g->3g, 3g->4g, 4g->3g, 4g->4g, 4g/3g-dumphone, dumphone->3g/4g... the only way you lose your unlimited is to upgrade on your line (not your account) at the subsidized (cheap) price. So its either full price, or your adding another line... to your account and that line will lose unlimited data but who cares, its your ghost line.

Yup. Activated today and my unlimited is still going strong.
