Question about sound recordig in Galaxy Ace

Hi I'm new and I have a concern with de audio recording feature in Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.3.6, Before I proceed to explain the issue I would like to tell you that english is not my natural lenguage so i hope you understand the bad writting.

Well let's begin, I like to use Whatsapp! with a friend and share voice notes, they really sounded good, much better than the audio notes from Facebook Messenger app, so I used to share a lot of music with various contacts via Whatsapp, but since some days (I don't know exaclty when) I noticed that these audio/voice notes start to sound really crappy low quality sound. then I checked the Audio notes folder where these audio files are saved and realized that before the files were saved in ".m4a" format and now to my surprise are being saved as ".amr" format, that is the old crappy format that used my old Nokia 6101 back in 2006. I Searched in google and found nothing and then I discover that it was not only the audio recording functionality in whatsapp that was changed but also the integrated audio recorder from Android was recording in this low quality format too and I don't know why and how or when it changed. I want to record good quality again, I'm 100% sure that I was recording voice in good quality before because I still have the old files saved in "m4a" sounding crystal clear and now these horrible low quality audio files.

Please someone help me with these It's really annoying me! Thanks

Have you tried removing the app and re-installing it in the hope that it resets the recording option?

Also how about contacting the developer?

WhatsApp Android FAQ

Also is it's cache/storage full and maybe the program has changed to a smaller sound recording format because of this and thus downgrading the quality.
Some sound apps have the option to change the recording format but it can be hidden away in the settings.

HTH :)

Hi PaulS, I also send an email to the developer team but still I recived no reply, as I said, this is not only happen with the Whatsapp audio notes but also with the main recorder app that is integrated with Android.

I also tried reinstalling the app, but since I've discovered that the problem is not limited to that app recorder but with the audio recording in general then I don't see a point in it and of course it didn't solve the issue.

What about your Phones?? they still record audio (Whatsapp and default audio recorder) in "m4a" ??

Thanks for the reply!

My Galaxy ace records the default recorder in the .3ga format and it's a reasonable sound quality.

Also try shutting the phone down, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds and then put it back in and re-boot the phone.

The only other app I have installed that may affect sound is the MX media player which installs the Arm Codecs for that app.

Of course there could be a fault with the microphone so try another sound recording app as a test.
