Help Question about the "R" above signal bars

I got my Ace from Hong Kong and I'm using it in Canada. Above the signal bars on the left side, there's always the letter "R". I'm not sure if it stands for roaming or reception? I have 'Use packet data' and 'Data roaming' unchecked, and 'Use only 2G networks' checked under 'Mobile network settings'. Just so you know everyone know I'm with Fido and I only have a voice plan. Any help would be appreciated!

aceuser, how can i turn roaming off?? thanks
as far as I know, you have to select your operator manually:

settings -> wireless and network -> mobile network -> network operator -> search network

there you choose yours and it should not roam...

if you go abroad, your phone won't connect to any network and you'll need to do the thing again.
