Question about using an upgrade from another account

I have a single line with unlimited data and an upgrade available. I want to get the Droid DNA and keep my unlimited data.

My wife has a separate family share account with two lines. One is her line with unlimited data for her galaxy nexus. The other is her mom's account with a razr flip phone, which has an upgrade available.

Is there a way that I could use her mom's upgrade to get the DNA then activate it on my line and keep my unlimited data then put her line back the way it was before the upgrade. What steps re required to do this? Do I need to activate it on her mom's line first?

If I do this I don't think I can get insurance for the DNA through Verizon, right?

Thanks

Hello grokr.

That is a question that only a carrier rep can work out for you. We might see several different experiences in the forums with similar queries, but all that proves is that the different stores and different reps/techs treat their challenging situations without much in the way of consistency.

I'd guess that a friendly talk and a good bill paying record on your part will give you the best chance to actually transfer an upgrade. I have doubts, too. ;) Good luck!

It's amazing how people rather ask questions on here than call in to Verizon and get a reps response.

The truth is that it often helps to hear others tell of their experiences, and find out the possible options BEFORE you speak to the service rep.
A little advice from someone who has already had the experience can often make the difference.:)

Indeed, that's the whole point of these forums. Yes sometimes the questions may sound dumb or self evident to some of the more experienced members. So its always good to get an opinion from others when your not sure about something.
