Question about vzw 3g coverage in nyc

Yesterday I spent the day in NYC around midtown area and I saw that my 3g coverage was HORRIBLE. I could not connect to any website. When I go and check on vzw's website it shows that the entire island of Manhattan is covered in red (meaning good 3g signal). I'm wondering why I couldn't get any signal. I'm using an Incredible.

Also, I noticed that when I was driving on the NJ turnpike I had really bad 3g service also. Does a moving car distort the service?

Is this a question or a rant?

Not really, you just move from one cell tower to the next as you travel. Loads may be higher on one tower vs. the next one.

Any "distortion" or degraded quality will come from being in a tunnel or underground, sitting in any sorts of structure or even extremely cloudy days.

Read the post and you will see I asked 2 questions. I'm new to the INC and smartphones in general. I would expect a city like NYC to have a lot of good 3g reception and I was amazed as to why I coudn't get any good 3g. That's why I'm wondering if maybe I have a faulty phone since it doesn't work well in NYC.

You may have received a faulty unit if its terribly bad. Run back to the store and explain your experiences and frustrations. They may run a diagnostic, or just replace the phone if your within your 30 days
