Question about why data drops to 1x even when 4g is available (Metro s3)

Hello my fellow Androids,

Ive got a question that hopefully someone can answer. My house must be made of some sort of data/ signal blocking material (joking). Because very few carriers signals actually work in my house. Verizon works great, but most of the rest are terrible, or dont work at all. Metro gives me on average about 1 bar with drops into 1x quite often. My average speeds are usually 2-3 if 4G is working, and well you know how bad 1x is.

Heres what I dont understand. When my data drops to 1x all I have to do is run the "Network Signal Speed Booster" app and 4G comes back 9 out of 10 times. And I know this only resets the modem, but it works even when turning data off then on does not. If it can get me 4G back so easily then why does the phone drop to 1x when 4G was obviously available or the app wouldnt be able to get it back in less than a minute? I mean shouldnt the phone be able to figure this out without me having to run an app?

I wish there was a way to force it to connect to 4g only. Ive tried the "phone info" app and set it to LTE only, but this turns off all other radios. What I am trying to say is that if 4g was already there (which it must be or else the app wouldnt be able to get it back so easily), then why does it ever drop to 1x in the first place? And is there someway to force it to only look for 4G without losing all other radios? Thanks

PS: I updated to 2034 PRL already.

If the 4G signal is low and almost close to unreadable it'll switch to the next strongest signal since if the signal is low it uses more power to read

OK. I was able to install 9033 using DFS and I got the OK, but it still shows 2034. Any ideas? Thanks

Nevermind I figured it out. I found a video that helped me to figure out what I was doing wrong. There was one step that I missed because it wasnt in the written tutorial. After clicking SAMSUNG Android USB Diagnostic Serial Port I needed to click it again in the bottom window. Then it worked. Im not sure why I got OK's for all the lines in the log before adding this step, but anyway it worked. Didnt help though, still drop to 1x. Oh well, it was worth the new knowledge of changing PRL's.

you're in a bad spot for a good signal. the booster app probably allows you to connect to towers your phone wouldnt otherwise. i'd leave it on if its working.

does the app give you those 2-3mbps speeds? if not, the app could just be a placebo.

You and I must be neighbors as I have the same experience with my phone. My phone goes through 4G, Evdo, 1X when I am on the bus commuting in the city, which is perfectly understandable, but I don't know why my phone vacillates amongst 4G, 1X and no signal while I am at home and stationary.

Like yourself, I have had more or less the same experience with all the other carriers with AT&T being the worst.

It would be great to find a solution.

The app Im referring to doesnt "stay on". Its only used to basically reset the radio. But it must be doing more than that because when I turn off data, then turn it back on that rarely helps. And Ive tried other signal apps and out of all of them this one works almost every time.

I live in Napa, so not too far from you. I also hope they find a solution. But Im not sure one will come anytime soon. The reason is because we live in an area that has had Metro for awhile now, and they are focusing more on getting Metro to areas that dont have it more than they are focusing on improving areas that already do. Thankfully theres always wifi.

Try some other prl's you might get lucky

Ok. Ive tried 2031, 2032, 2034, 3033, and 9033 and they all do the same drop to 1X every few minutes. I really wish there was a way to ignore the 1x and stay with 4G even if it does suck up battery life while it looks for signals. Went back to 2034.
