Question for Verizon users who ordered online

CLS

Newbie
I ordered my X online from Verizon and it is scheduled to be shipped on 9/7. I've never ordered a phone before and have always gotten in stock phones in a Verizon store, so I don't know how the switch from one to the other works for an online order, so I have some questions.

Once you activated your new Droid, was your previous phone automatically de-activated, leaving it dead or was it also left active and working? Does your old phone continue to remain working even though you have the new phone?

Working like you can make calls on it? No, it is no longer connected to a line. But you can still turn it on and get info off of it.

Once you get the new phone, on the screen or the box somewhere they'll be a sticker to call a number (*228 if I remember correctly), it will program your new phone to your line automatically and disconnect your old one.

You definitely need to have your old phone turned off before you can activate your DX. If you turn the old phone back on without doing a master reset, the network can get confused as to which phone to send things to, and it may seem as if your DX is not working properly. If you wish to continue to use your old phone for something like an alarm clock, or to have sitting in your car for emergency 911 calls only, then do a master reset first, that will wipe out the existing programing, so your old phone will not be making contact with the network, identifying itself as active on your line. Also, your old phone can always be activated on another line or sold to someone else if you wish.

Activating your DX will be very easy. Once you power it on, it will prompt you to make the activation phone call (where you'll be prompted to press 1 to program your phone), then have you set up your Gmail account on the phone. If you don't already have a Gmail account, I would recommend setting it up before hand, through your computer instead of setting up a new account through the phone.

Have fun! :D
