Question regarding "Beautiful Widgets"

Was wondering if I would have to have my GPS turned on for it to work properly? Or, could I use it with GPS off with it being able to work ok with network based locations? I ask because I usually keep my GPS off to conserve battery power. Thanks!

You don't need GPS for it to work properly. In fact, I don't even have my network based location option turned on, and it works perfectly. I get great/accurate weather.

if you dont use GPS or have your network based location turned on then how exactly do you get accurate weather conditions/updates?

I actually asked myself that question, and have yet to come up with an answer. I emailed the dev about it, but he never got back to me. Frankly I'm not concerned about it. LOL. As long as it works I won't question it. LOL.

I basically just wanted to know before I bought the app. I thank you kindly for taking the time to respond to my questions.

Chances are when you turn off GPS it still extrapolates your location from surrounding cell towers. Not as battery-intensive as reading satellite signals.

Otherwise, maybe it's using your last known location?

That may be true.

Watch now that I mentioned it, it probably will stop working. Lol.

GPS really is necessary for getting weather data. The you can still get your location by triangulating your positions with cell towers and even though it may not be very accurate, even if it can get you within a mile raidus it wont make a difference because all it needs is your zip code.

The only reason you need gps on is if you want the weather and time to be updated automatically to where ever you currently are. Otherwise you can just set it for your preferred zip code and it will always display the time and weather for that location only.
