Can i use rom manager to flash the kernel to my phone instead of adb? I can use adb but i would feel better knowing that rm can too.

No i mean a custom kernel. To overclock my phone without typing code. The file is a zip file

Do you have a D2? If so, you can't flash a custom kernel. The bootloader is still locked, and will never be unlocked unless Motorola releases the key.

Bootloader is locked on these phones. to OC you'll need a ROM that does it for you or one of the many toolboxes out there that do the OC'ing behind the scenes.

i thought the boostrap was for that...i have cyanogen, had LG, and liberty. i saw the thread overclock kernel and instruction and thought that would apply to all roms for the D2. sorry better to ask than brick.

It's a workaround that lets you flash ROMs based of that particular kernel.

CM7 (and Liquid, etc) only came about once the 2nd-init "flaw" was exposed.

You can use DroidOverclock to OC your phone regardless of the ROM you're using.
