Questions about M8S Tv Box

Hello, I recently purchased a M8S TV Box with android 4.4 off amazon and have a few questions!

1. I'm going to purchase a external hard drive, Is there a maximum size that an android 4.4 TV Box will support, and will a portable external hard drive work or will I need a external hard drive that has a power supply?
2. I would also like to expand the USB ports on the box, if i purchase a USB hub with a power supply will the TV box recognize more than one USB storage device connected to the USB hub, and would it recognize a game controller connected to the hub?

There are many version of motherboard of M8S, although they look the same.

My test on external harddisk on m8s
1. It read and write without problem on harddisk <= 0.75A , i tried an 1A harddisk, it doesn't have enough power to run. Of course , there are no problem to run an harddisks with its own power supply
2. USB hub require power too, if you connect your hub with external HD which require high power, it is not going to work
So, i may advise an usb hub with it own power supply
