Intro, question is in red near bottom of thread.
Bought rooted G1 on Craigslist. Phone is so messed up that it resets randomly, kicks me off the internet incessantly, and after a few days it stops receiving text messages from randomly selected numbers.
The phone has applications like "spare parts," "Superuser," "Terminal emulator." No idea how to use them, and I'm pretty sure that whatever whoever had the phone before me did to it has screwed it up.
I want a working phone, and this is what I'm stuck with for a while.
I read a thread that talked about how to restore the G1 to "Factory" settings, which I'm guessing will delete any and all user information as well as post-factory installed apps. After reading that, I read a thread posted by a newby to the whole "Android" thing who said that when he restored his phone to factory settings, his SIM card stopped showing up in the file manager.
I don't want this to happen to my phone, or anything else along those lines. I just want the phone to work.
Question: What should I do and what should I not do in getting my G1 back to square one where it won't bug out on me?
If factory reset won't get rid of my phone's problem, what other options do I have? Step by step instructions would be helpful if available.
Thanks to anyone who takes time to read and answer.
