I have decided to root my G1, two months after I first received it. I have decided to follow this route (excuse the minor pun).

I want to install this [ROM] [v1.9] [FASTEST] [STABLE] KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 {4/9/10 1:51 pm PST} - xda-developers

Now I want to know to install a new rom what are the instructions on updating the radio, spl and rom. Also information on changing partition type when installing new rom.

What I want to know is do I backup, then wipe, then flash new radio, spl and then rom?

Also how would I change partition type if needed would I do this after the wipe and before flashing the radio.

Well for each rom the instructions are different. I'd say that you should try the 5.0.8 cyanogen rom.
