Queued gmail

We were trying to send a message with an attached picture, but somehow it didn't work. How do we make sure it actually does get sent? All it says is that it's queued in the outbox part.

Open G-Mail.
Select the hamburger menu
(top left)
Select Outbox
Tap the desired e-mail.
Select edit.
Send

It went fine until I looked for "edit". I ended up using that arrow that points around backwards, and it claims it was sending it. Maybe I'll find out later.

I think 'edit' is the pencil and paper.
