Quiet around here

Is it me or with all the nexus 5 hype out there and note 3 the moto x is out of the rankings and off the charts almost because people are still looking past the processor and think it can't handle the load...I can't lie I love the nexus 5 set up and the g2 is cool but lg ui is not the nicest and was just a tad big for me...so I went with the moto x..and have yet to have any lag its way better than my HTC one was and smoother also what are your takes and how do you think the life of the moto x will be?

The phone has so few problems, we don't have anything to post on this forum. :)

The AT&T exclusive Moto Maker I know hurt them. And also, its hard to compete when phones like the One, S4, Nexus 5, Note 3, G2 are all now available. Like really, those are all pretty good phones.

To be honest, if I used the Nexus 5 for a week, and then the Moto X, I am sure I would pick the X over it. It would be nice to get that Nexus 5 display on my phone though. Not gonna lie.

Depending on what the future hold for this phone ( I dont know if they plan a Moto X 2), but I think the phone would see major popularity a second time around.

Yep, I've seen a number of comments where people are/were waiting for Moto Maker, but overall, I think it was a very poor decision to make it exclusive. This is the second time in recent memory, where Motorola has managed to largely fail to nail it, after creating enormous hype (previously it was the Bionic).

Exclusivity may be good for a select few, over the short term, but all it does is buy competitors time. With the Nexus 5 and G2 entering the market, you now have your own parent company undercutting you, as well as an extremely solid entry into the Android landscape.

As fiercely competitive as the Android market is, I don't know why any make would buy into any type of exclusive carrier deal. Though the circumstances were different, Apple doing so with AT&T is exactly what gave Android the chance to grow on VZW (arguably). If anything, you try to get on as many carriers as possible and push for that consumer mindshare.

Yup. In this day and age it's probably not a good idea to exclude people when you are trying to gain market share.

I got the Verizon DE because I wanted 32GB and planned to pay full retail anyway (unlimited data) but don't plan to unlock/root. I would have happily gone through MotoMaker or even just gotten a black phone through Verizon if either had been available. I'm sure Verizon lost a few dollars on me.

I'm just glad there was an alternative for me, but there isn't for the people on contract looking to upgrade. They (both Moto and Verizon) are losing sales hand over foot. It also leaves a permanent 'bad taste', future sales lost.

But yeah, part of the quiet is that it's such a good phone there isn't much to discuss :)

Indeed, the combination of a well made phone that's locked down makes for a slow forum. Motorola really did hurt themselves by not only giving AT&T an exclusive on Moto Maker, but they also released 3 other phones on Verizon in the exact same month to cannibalize their own market. Not to mention though there is a T-Mobile version, it's not available at T-Mobile stores to buy subsidized/cheaply. It has to be bought at full retail on their website.

Forgot about that huge faux pas! Verizon also buried the X, when I went to look at it before ordering mine I couldn't find it. There were huge Droid displays and huge iPhone displays but not an X to be easily spotted. No signs, no display, no nothing. It was just sitting off to the side all lonely. You had to know it was available and know you wanted to look at it because no one in Verizon was going to point it out as an option.

I waited until the Nexus 5 specs were released, unfortunately too large for my tastes. I would have ordered the X last week but want to move from Verizon to T-Mobile. I want the T-Mobile version in case I am unhappy with the service - just switch it to AT&T but:

With all the price reductions I still can't believe Motorola still wants $599. Having waited this long, I think I will hold out for $499.

Just general comments...

My guess is that AT&T paid a large fee for the exclusivity, perhaps because they were worried about Verizon's very similar Droids coming out at the same time. AT&T paid a premium to make sure that their phones had a marketing edge. In the end I'd be willing to bet that any sales that Motorola lost to the exclusivity was made up for by the payment from AT&T.

As for cannibalizing your own market, that's better than letting somebody else cannibalizing your market.

As for the Bionic comparison, this is a different Motorola. It has completely new ownership and management, and the Motorola X is the first step in what I believe to be a long-term effort to right the poor management of the Bionic-era company. You don't get all of the customers you lost back with one phone. Let's see what Motorola brings over the next two years - then we can better analyze their efforts.

I think that the X is a great first step. I can't see how anybody could be unhappy with what this Motorola brought with the X.

For me the nexus 5 is a perfect all around phone it never just 100% fails In a 1 category I watched the moto x and planed for it ever since it was just a whisper in all the forums as soon as NY upgrade was here I got it I did question the x8 on a dual core but u can't stop it I really think the main part that killed sales for moto is the specs on paper I was and still do have a week spot for the newest specs... But I think that's what brought me to the moto if you think about it it is an all new system just my thoughts..

P.s love the fact there are no major issues with our motos after the camera update haha

I honestly believe this is it.... This is the first phone that I haven't had to google something or ask a question on the forum. I would love to say its because its my prowess in android kung fu but honestly I just don't have any problems.

Lets face it, most of the time people seek out advice on something in order to fix a problem.

We will see though.... After the price drop I think we might be seeing some more stuff pop up.

Yea the activity of the S3 forum I was on compared to this is like cut in half. Looking back, it was alot of problem solving threads though.

I am not sure this phone is ever going to REALLY take off. Obviously after moto maker gets put on all carriers, and after the holidays, we should see a decent jump in activity. But I don't think we have ever seen a phone release, wait 5 months...and then become really popular.

It seems that most companies don't always bank on v1 of products to be their best device. But I really feel like when they come out with the next phone, its going to be one that appeals to alot more people. They will take care of a lot of the "issues" people have with this phone.

Also to the comment about VZW that buried the X, it seems very true. Which would make sense, why advertise a phone like that when you can't even offer its best feature. They had no choice. They had to push their droid line. Otherwise its like "HERE IS THE MOTO X...CUSTOMIZE IT!...SWITCH TO AT&T...". :)
