I'm coming off of an iPhone 3gs. Really love the GS3 and have been learning a lot about Android. I preordered mine and have one of the first units from AT&T. Unfortunately, I've experienced one issue that has me on the fence about whether or not I should keep this phone. About 5 times now (over the last 4 weeks), I've picked up the phone and found it very warm to the touch. At the same time, the battery, which is usually pretty good, has drained considerably in a very short period of time. 4 out of the 5 times that this has happened, I wasn't even using the phone. It was asleep and just sitting on my desk. Not even being charged. Each time this happened, I took a look at the task manager to see if some application was running up the CPU but it never reports any notable CPU activity. Even after shutting down every single application and unnecessary process the phone would continue to stay warm and drain the battery at an alarming rate. The battery utility indicated that "cell standby" was the main power drain, which seemed logical, since I wasn't using the phone for anything. Each time this has happened, there was nothing that I could do to stop the heat/battery drain, short of powering down the phone and restarting. Once I did this, everything was fine and went back to normal.
So, I suppose there are a few different explanations for these problems:
I have only two days left to return my phone to AT&T. I am considering doing that at this point because, I'm thinking that there may indeed be a major problem with the S3 and, at some point, this issue is going to hit the fan. As much as I like the phone, I don't want to be stuck these problems for 2 years. I'm not the only one experiencing it. Unfortunately, I can't post links but if you Google "forum xda galaxy s3 overheating" the first result that comes up is filled with posts from other people who are having this problem.
Has anyone here experienced this? Do you have any thoughts? Even if I do restore the phone to factory settings, this issue has come up so sporadically, I wouldn't know how to reproduce it if I needed to test it.

- I have a bad unit
- The OS on my particular phone is corrupt and I need to restore it to factory settings
- There is a major problem with the Galaxy S3 line
