My buddy has one and it's fun to play around with, learning simple coding. They're using them quite a bit in Britain to teach coding in grammar school. For $40 on ebay I definitely think it's worth it just for the grown up "toy" value.
The senior school next to me has done some amazing things with them, weather monitoring and various projects.. great idea for kids and adults that have an interest in that kind of thing.
