Help Rattle Inside Nexus 7

Just bought my 16gb Nexus 7 from Sam's Club today. (Went in to the store and asked about it and they told me they haven't been released yet. Told them that other Sam's have been selling them and when they checked the stock for me they found that two of them had already been sold. lol)

So, I love it. It's sleek and smooth, quick, light... very nice.

But, there is a rattle coming from inside when I shake it slightly.

My first thought is that there was something broken off inside of it and was moving around when I shook it. Annoying, but Sam's is always good about replacements.

Or... could it be the accelerometer, or some other orientation detection device?

I'm on hold with the Google Play store now to see if they have heard of anything, but I figured I'd post here to see if anyone else has the same thing. I can hear it best from the back of the device, near the bottom.

I doubt it's the accelerometer. I've used those before and don't remember there every being any rattling with them.
Unless you're implying that the accelerometer is unattached and it's the thing rattling... in which case... you still have a problem

I finally spoke to a guy at the Play store (after about 30 mins on hold) and his opinion was that it shouldn't be doing that and that I should bring it back to Sam's to be replaced. None of the Nexus 7's that he had at the support center were making a rattling noise.

:-(

Oh, and on a side note... I've noticed that the screen doesn't rotate. I think I know where that rattle is from now. :-)

Are you saying it doesn't rotate ever? Or just on the homescreen? I don't think the home screen can go horizontal.. that sucks, but sams should be able to switch it out no problem if they still have any in stock.. good luck

At first I thought that all the pages I was looking at didn't have rotation capability, but now I can't find any app/page that will. It really does seem like it is broken.

In the notification pull down there is an option to lock the screen to not rotate. Did you do this on accident?

Hah, my bad. Yeah, it was locked. (Too used to the unlock switch on the iPad.)

Still rattles though.

I would definitely swap that out whether you do in store exchange or warranty replacement. You don't know what could be floating around in there and if it is metal could cause all kinds of trouble down the road.

Rattle may be the vibration motor, which is a circular weight attached to a motor that spins around -- it's one of the few mechanical pieces inside (the accelerometer is solid-state so there is no way anything involved with it would rattle).

I would change it as soon as possible or get my money back. Rattling is never good in an electronic device.
