Help Razr dialer autocomplete mess

fluorite

Newbie
I have a Motorola Razr Maxx. As I try to use the dial pad to dial a number, autocomplete keeps popping up "guesses" and disrupting my ability to dial.

It does not always happen, but when it does, it makes dialing very difficult. Oftentimes it pops a "suggestion" right where I was about to hit a number, causing me to call the "suggested" number rather than completing the number.

I cannot find a way to disable autocomplete in settings.

Help!

Try just dialing the number and ignoring the suggestion. My Note 3 dialer does the same thing, picking up numbers from my contacts that match what I've dialed so far, but it still lets me keep dialing, eventually calling the number I've typed in. (I've, on very rare occasion, noticed that it autocompleted the number I wanted, and used it. I almost never even look at what it's autocompleting any more.)

Try just dialing the number and ignoring the suggestion...

I would love to ignore it, but when the phone is in the mode that gives the problem, the location of the dial pad gets shifted mid-number. So I aim for the "1" on the dial pad, and just before my finger hits, a matching number pops up where the "1" had been, so I tap that partial match by accident instead of "1".

To make things more complicated, the dialer does not always do this. It is not doing it right now. But when it is in this mode, I can take my time and watch it happen, backspacing when the wrong number is inserted, and continuing to see it do this again. Yesterday, it took me over a minute to dial a number, with all the backspacing I needed to do.
