RAZR HD Maxx: Should there be a progress notification

SD Buff

Newbie
While updating to Jelly Bean? I just unboxed this RHDM earlier today. Was connected to WIFI and have a strong 4G connection, over an hour went by and was still giving me this.

An Update is currently being downloaded

You will be notified when the download is complete.

So figured something was wrong. Went ahead an did a hard reset and started over again. Still getting that same message 30 minutes in now.

Not normal, right? Coming from DINC2 with Gingerbread -- there was a progress report when downloading and/or installing. I am getting no notifications at all, just that message above when I hit system updates.

********* According to Verizon, Motorola servers are down and/or they are working on the update. Was told to try back in a few days. Its NOT the phone, its on Verizon/Motorola end. Update issue is with 0.7.2.en.us

It took a while for my RMHD to do the upgrade (also on WiFi). Give it an hour or so before having concern. Frankly, leave it plugged in and come back in the morning... I think mine took about an hour to go through the whole process.

DON'T INTERRUPT AN UPGRADE IN PROGRESS!!

Thanks man. All it takes is a little reasurrance. Would be nice to see download 30% complete or something just so I know something is happening. But will go ahead and let it go all night if need be.

You should check your wifi connection and speed. Sounds way too long. If you have good 4G signal, that's faster than most wifi connections. Try that assuming you're on unlimited data.

Yeah, something is funky. Just realized it wasn't even JB I was trying to download, it was a security fix. (0.7.2.en.US).

Something is screwed up, maybe I got a lemon. Can't even turn the volume down on notifications or ringtone. I move the damn thing all the way to near mute and its still blasting at full.

4G isn't all that strong signal, 93dbm ... but turning off wifi or keeping it on, doesn't matter, nothing is happening. And fwiw, wifi is testing 24 down/14 up

As a couple data points, I recently got a Galaxy Tab2, that was on 4.01 or 4.02. I had to do a bunch of passes at upgrading it. The first upgrade was to 4.0.4, and took about 40 minutes download time (WIFI, no cell on this thing!), and the size of the download was around 285 MB if I remember correctly. Clearly, the server was the chokepoint. I've got 20 Mb/s service and WiFi N+...

Eventually I made it through to the last update which was Jelly Bean and that was about 350 MB and took close to an hour to download. Again, the rate the server was feeding me the update seemed to be the limitation.

After those downloads, I needed to press OK to start the update process that took maybe 10 minutes to complete. My RMHD was similar to these data points when it updated over my home wifi.

I started downloading JB on my wife's Raxr HD as soon as it became available one evening. I was hoping to get it installed before I went to bed, but it was taking forever on my wifi. Since I had no idea how far along the download was, I went to bed and it was ready to install the next morning.

Nevermind -- was going to hijack about the speaker volume. Guess I can get used to it, but damn that is one loud setting for one notch above vibrate.

TAMU fan -- nice move to the SEC. Freakn UT is still ruining the Big XII-IV+II. What a hot mess.

i have the same problem as the OP. Going on three days now with no progress. I've done "battery pulls" and even did a factory reset. nothing helps. When i shut off wi-fi (or leave the house) i then get a download suspended. will resume shortly download icon that will never again go away until i force close the updater app. It's pissing me off and i'm out of ideas to fix it.

I am waiting on UPS for a replacement phone. Will let you know if the new one works.

Spent a considerable amount of time with Verizon tech - they were of no help. If this one doesn't work, will go with the S3. But hate all the talk about that phone's GPS issues and love the battery life of this Maxx. Hopefully a new phone does the trick.

New phone did the same thing.

Spoke to three different techs -- first two had no idea.

Third one -- "Motorola has an alert their servers are experiencing problems, no estimate when they will be back up".

So try again in a few days I guess.

good info. Thanks. I'll give it a week and then Tit backup blocks all updates. Maybe a good thing so i can work on my root first.

I just got a new Razr Maxx and had the exact same problem. After Googleing the problem I found the solution on another forum. They suggested downloading the USB driver from Motorola and installing on your pc. After installing, plug in your phone and the software will download and update your phone. It will also install Jelly Bean. It worked for me.

My update apparently downloaded last night as I had the install popup things morning maybe there was something to the update server being down.
