I chose the RAZR HD even over the MAXX, because of the white model's aesthetics. I love my phone. DROID DNA was being considered when Verizon was offering it for "free", but they didn't let me upgrade one day earlier to take advantage of the offer (pretty bad customer service choice, IMO). The great thing about my white HD is not only the superior battery life, but also that I was able to just switch my 32 gig SD card from my old DROID 3 no problem, whereas I assume it should be a nuisance to depend on cloud storage for a big music collection (I use my phone as a media player most of the time.)
I don't think the DNA is a bad phone if one gets a good deal for it-though I do admit that I love this phone, and the Android OS is better than ever for my purposes. It's rather uncommon out there too, which makes me like it even more (a personality thing that may not apply to many people.)
