Razr HD vs. Nexus 4 vs. the next Commando

I currently have a Casio Commando on Verizon, and I have an upgrade in November.

Coming from the commando, having a phone with good build quality is important to me. I don't know if I need the extremely rugged, but I don't want cheap - that's why I'm skipping over the SG3.

I also want a phone that's fast.

  • I've held the Razr HD, and I liked how it felt. It was pretty fast, from when I used it for 10 minutes. I'm leaning towards it at the moment.
  • I've seen that the new Nexus 4 is coming out. I'm thinking about that, although I've never been a fan of LG.
  • And as for the next Commando, I'm kind of skeptical on when it will be released. I'm also skeptical on whether or not the American one will be as good as the one in Japan right now. I'd also like one by the end of November, although I'm willing to wait if it's worth it.

If you have any more phones in mind that I should wait on, throw em out there!

I feel like build quality and speed should be important in my decision. I did take care of my commando, despite it being rugged - I kept it in a case and didn't go crazy dropping it.

  1. So, here's what I'm asking - is the speed going to be that much more noticeable between the Razr HD and the Nexus 4? (especially considering I'm coming from the Commando)
  2. And do you think the Razr HD is comparable in build quality to the Commando 1?
  3. How has the Razr HD fared with dropping/getting wet?
  4. Also, I'm asking opinions - do you feel build quality should be a factor in buying a phone? Do you consider how your phone will do when you drop it, or do you just baby your phone?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate any opinions and advice. :D

build quality isn't so important to me, when you're talking about a 4in+ screen you have to expect that if it takes a tumble you might be shattering it.

That said, most phones are built fairly well. I know the nexus 4 has a glass front and back, but it seems like google and LG really thought this through. The edges of the phone are raised just slightly so that the glass never contacts the ground directly (that doesnt mean its immune to rogue rocks etc.) while still making it feel comfortable to hold and use.

The Razor is VZW's flagship. Its built, from everything i've heard, extremely well but i've never used one so i'm speaking from other peoples accounts.

That said, it might not make a difference if you're not wiling to switch carriers. The Nexus 4 will not be coming to Verizon. Some say that it might come eventually, but i personally don't see that happening. So if you're intending to stick with big red, you can axe one phone from your list.

I don't know anything about the commando so i'm not going to comment on that one.

Good luck!

The LG Nexus 4 by far. Much better performance and it's Google's flagship product so expect on-time updates and the best of the best when it comes to software.

If not I would consider the Razr HD.

Do not get the next Commando it's crap.

Thanks guys for the tips and info. I had no clue the Nexus was AT&T - that helps narrow it down a lot. Plus, I'm iffy about the glass back. I've seen peoples' phones where the glass back breaks, and I'd hate that.

Your posts, plus heading over to the Razr forums have helped me narrow it down. Unless a nicer phone comes out or is announced within the next week or two, I'm going with the Razr.

Thank you!!
