RAZR vs Rezound in streaming videos

Newbie
I am trying to make up my mind on a new phone. Today the comparison was between the RAZR and Rezound.

I'm big on sports streaming like ESPN3 and others and Netflix.

I went to local VZW and tested both with Quadrant. The RAZR was about 2800 and Rezound 2400.

What really makes me lean towards the RAZR is this: downloaded Dolphin HD, set it to Desktop agent, went to full youtube site and searched for 1080p hd and clicked on today's 2nd result,
Nvidia PureVideo HD 1080p Test.

Both phones were on 4G. Even after buffering/downloading the whole thing, the Rezound could not handle it. Unwatchable. The skips lasted entire seconds. The RAZR, even as it was still downloading, was not perfect, but very impressive. Slight skips, but very watchable. My Thrive tablet oc-ed to 1592 does not even come close to the performance of the RAZR on this particular type of test.

Just wanted to share this in case you are looking for a new phone for the same reason I am.

Waiting to test the Nexus in a couple of weeks. Then I'll decide.

edit: 1080p was what I selected in the youtube video

I think that using demos is probably not the best comparison. I tested the Razr and Rezound in store over a few days and the Rezound seemed to have a harder time with the demo bloat. The live wallpaper set as default on it also makes the UI a little laggy (I removed it during tests).

Then again, what better way to test a device than with a stressful task environment. Demo bloat- bad.

JMO.

I agree rush. But....he tested both demo units for the RAZR and Rezound. Even then, there is no telling what one phone has running in the background.

Then....what if one phone is actually a lemon....lol.

Getting a good working phone or a lemon, testing these phones....its all a crap shoot.

forgot to mention, I did install Advanced Task Killer and killed everything on both phones before the "test." Don't know what good that did, but I did it.

Now that I think about it, I should have rebooted both first.

When comparing the two phones take the reported Quadrant scores with a grain of salt. Quadrant isn't optimized to work on dual core phones. As such it may or may not provide you accurate (or consistent) results.

Additionally the phones that most Verizon stores places on display tend to be pre-production or older models. Use these phones to get an idea of the form factor, capabilities, and general look and feel. For a more detailed analysis it's often useful to ask a store employee if they have a handset behind the counter that you can look at.

Another possible solution is to find a friend that owns one of the handsets in question and borrow theirs to test performance. Even this has it's drawbacks since you tend to have little control over what's in memory.

This is most interesting.

I had a Razr and jumped to the Rezound for a couple of reasons and most it had to do with personal preference and no hard feelings for the Razr.

I just tried this video on my Rezound and it worked perfectly. It was even working on 3G with no buffering issues whatsoever. I made sure to select the HD mode as well.

As I am not a big streaming video watcher this is not important to me, but I find it interesting that the Rezound stepped up to the plate with no problems at all.

If I had an incorrect setting let me know.

Happy Holidays and enjoy whatever phone you buy.

All things considered, we do have an absolute. The good news for the Rezound is it has a 720p display. The bad news for performance is- it has a 720p display. No contest on high def Flash and games (especially emulators). I noticed lag quite a few times on the Rezound and also the touch response issues with emulators and no such issues on the Razr. This is one of my reasons for choosing the Razr.

Beginning to think that with the current chipset and battery tech available, qHD is the better option. 720p on phones ATM seems too leading edge.

Coming from the Incredible to the Razr I can safely say to stay away from HTC for a bit. They are horrible at fixing bugs and take waaaay to long to update the OS. Plus the battery drain on HTC's is horrible.

Using Smart Actions on the Razr I'm getting about 18 hours with moderate+ use. I could never get 10-12 out of the Incredible using Juice Defender (similar to Smart Actions).

Not the same test. seems you used YouTube app.

use browser, set agent to desktop, view video in the browser through flash. set to 1080p.

Well, I got the razr. Took it home, did the same test. Awful. Unwatchable.

Then I updated flash player from 10.x it latest 11.x. amazing performance. Nit perfect playback, but great.

Makes me wonder if the rezound would have benefited from the flash update.
