I'm thinking of trying these apps. Are they legal? When I download the songs for offline playback are they mine to keep or only as long as I'm a subscriber?

Yes, they are legal. I use MOG and love it. If you download a song for offline use, you can play it as long as you like as long as you are a subscriber. BTW, being a subscriber for the mobile app also lets you use it on the PC.
