Re-assigning Imported Contacts to Groups

Hi, i'm new to the forum. I have a Samsung Droid Charge. Trying to re-assign records from one group to another. When i create new records manually it gives me an option to assign to a group, but for existing records that i mechanically imported it does not seem to allow me to move them to another group. Appreciate your help. Thanks. steve
