Reacting on Notification

Loek

Lurker
Hi,

To start with: I'm a total beginner to everything, and looking out for all posibilities to do some cool stuff with Tasker/Kustom.

For the moment, I'm checking out Kustom to make a very nice Live Wallpaper, with just all the things I want/need. (It's a lot of digging and searching, but I think I can find my way trough with Kustom)

One of the 'wanted/needs', is to show a status given by an app. More specific:
I have a security app, whose widget is just ugly, and I want to integrate the 'widget info' in my nice Live Wallpaper.

Before I go digging and searching how to do this, I wanted to check if it's possible what I want, and maybe to get hints to search more accurate.

What I want:
For the moment the app will send a notification (in the dropdown menu) when the alarm is set on or off, but I want this status given on my Wallpaper with a changing icon, instead of a push notification.
Can I use information from a Notification the App is giving, and block the notification furthermore? (Or another way around to get the same result?)

thx!

A few things.

The way to learn Tasker is to start out simple ... get it to work ... add to it ... get it to work ... and keep growing.

I assume you are not root-ed ... that is a big question.

What is usually done for what you briefly outlined is to use an alternate launcher and develop widget equivalents that do what you want. I use Nova Launcher Prime.

Tasker has the ability to be triggered by a notification from a specific app that has a specific text.

The typical learning curve for Tasker is a year before you feel comfortable. Some people choose MacroDroid instead of Tasker. It has less capability but a much shorter learning curve.

Thom,
Thank you for your reaction. All I wanted to be sure of, was the ability you described. I do completely agree with your point you made.
You can find the more common tasks on the Internet, and with a little trial and error, you can make it work, even without exactly knowing how Tasker works.

There are enough tutorials that describes every single step to become a certain result.
The task I want to create, is something you don't find in a tutorial. So I know I have to start with a little project, and keep growing.

But before I actually start learning and understanding Tasker, I wanted to be sure that Tasker is capable of doing something like I described, so my efforts wouldn't lead to nothing.
Furthermore, I'm also using the Nova Launcher, in combination with Kustom Live Wallpaper. Just really great stuff, which opened a new world to me!
And you're also right about the rooted subject..

This forum is a good place to get ideas. I have no experience with your live wallpaper app and from what is on Play Store I have no interest in it.

You can easily fall into a trap of mod after mod to something because it accesses an app that that author keeps "evolving".

So in short you can monitor the notifications with Tasker. Exactly what you do with the information is unknown.

In the meanwhile, I'm reading a lot about Tasker to expand my knowledge and try to see the power of it.
So, you can monitor the notifications as a trigger to launch a profile. In my particular case, one of the (last) tasks shall be monitoring an icon on the screen. Am I thinking the right way?

I'm just trying to understand the base thinking of Tasker. Trying to project the things I'm reading to an undescribed case.
You are not interested in the live wallpaper app. Is this because you can do all this with Tasker?
My first idea of Tasker was more programming like / actions behind the scene and less graphic user interface like.
I'm a huge fan of clean and clear interfaces with a good overview and the right interactions to work instinctive. I'm allergic to screens fully loaded with icons and colors. You just don't know where to look at!
Am I right to expand my view further than only the programming behind the scene actions? That you can also make a clear graphic user interface with it?
Thx for all the information!

Tasker is like a bag or macros. Some have paramaters that can be changes and some don't.

I suggest you experiment (play) with it a little so see how it fits together. You need a Profile and Event/UI/Notification

For the Start task try New Task/ no name that contains Flash TEST.
