Help Real Android TV Firmware on Mini M8S

asamatg

Lurker
I just bought my first Android TV Box, the Mini M8S (with Amlogic S905) and I feel like there is not a real Android TV Firmware on it. It feels more like the Phone Version, because
Do you have any idea if I just do something wrong or does this specific TV Box not support the "real Android TV" features?

Thank you in advance! ;)

Post a pic of your home screen.
That will tell us right away if you have the TV version of Android.
It should look something like this...

You may just have the wrong 'launcher' selected...
(The 'launcher' is the app that organizes your home screen.)

Click on Settings - More Settings - Home for options.

You could also install a launcher from the PlayStore.
Simple TV Launcher is a good one to get started with.

The launcher looks okay to me. The launcher looks like an Android TV one, but applications like YouTube or Netflix just have the usual Android UI, which is pretty unfriendly to control using a standard TV remote.

...but applications like YouTube...
The YouTube addon for KODI is perfect.
Although for 'search' features it's good to have a mouse handy.
Use that instead of the 'standalone' PlayStore version.

There is also a way to add NetFlix to KODI, though it's not as simple.

Looks like there is no way to get the real Android TV UI. In this case, I am going to send the TV Box back.
Thank you for your help, Andrew! Really appreciate it!
