Root Reason for lost IMEI?

My IMEI is fine right now. But it disappeared when i was on a previous CM13 rom. And i want to know why that happened to see if i need to do something to prevent another 'imei wipe'.

It got lost when using this mod:
Unofficial CyanogenMod 13.0 for LG L70 D320 D320n D325 MS323.
First all was fine, no problems. Then sim card was not found. IMEI lost...
The only thing i can think of that triggered it was removing the sim card for a short time. Is that possible? I recovered the IMEI after flashing some stock files back. The modem binary did the trick i assume.

Oh one other thing... i euh used euh... kingroot.. the first time i tried rooting.
Lots of stuff is getting blamed on these Chinese kingroot devs.
Perhaps we can blame this one on them as well.
