Help Reboot caused "apps updating"

Every couple days I reboot my phone for general cleanup.

Today upon reboot a black screen with a white window said something like "apps updating" like it does after an OS update. It counted up to the number of apps I have installed then simply completed booting.

I'm on Verizon and it updated to Lollipop a month ago and I haven't seen anything new come across the board.

Any ideas what this was?

For whatever strange Verizon reason, it was converting your apps to ART runtime, as it does when you first update to Lollipop. Apart from an update the only other time you would see this is after a Factory Data Reset or a wipe of the Dalvik cache partition, (rooted users). If this continues, I suggest doing a Factory Data Reset to clear out the old Dalvik cache. It seems that on Verizon's version of Lollipop that this is almost mandatory.

I did do a factory reset after OTA Lollipop....which I HATE having to do. I did see that conversion to ART back then. Not sure why it would happen today out of the blue.

Only Verizon Knows, quoth the Raven....

I have had to put up with a lot of nuances in the 20 years of being on Verizon. A lot of them not so welcome to me.
